Does 2 Chronicles 7:14 apply to us, even in the USA today?
How does 2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV read?
“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
As background, I consider the following:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
There is a specific condition referenced in 2 Chronicles 7:13 that also defines the “healing”, which is “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,”.
I don’t think that folks that reference 2 Chronicles 7:14 mean to use it literally to address the particular circumstances stated in the previous verse (7:13), or anything but the principle contained in it, which roughly is if we humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, He will forgive our sins, and He will heal us as a people.
In today’s times, I think we’d all agree that sin, strife and division are abounding all around us. Some of that is even in the church. There’s carnality, “secret” sins made easy by the internet, focus on self, division, apathy towards fulfilling the Great Commission and the list goes on. But the issue is more on the heart rather than the sin, not really walking closely with God.
The way I see it is that if all/most/many Christians in our country were to walk with God as they should, I think we’d see revival in our land. If we did, we’d also have one awesomely vibrant community of believers as well. I’d definitely call that “healing”.
As such, the principle applies to us.
